Obituary

Ronald Reid
1935 – 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ron on January 31, 2024, at the age of 88. Born July 13, 1935, to Walter and Sophie Reid of the Hoadley Area, Ron was a farm kid. After graduation, he excelled at the Vermillion School of Agriculture.

In 1956, Ron married Edith and they raised four kids. After buying land north of Eckville, they started raising Quarter Horses. Ron commuted daily to Red Deer to manage the Co-op Feed Mill. He was involved with 4-H and team roped with his son Doug. In Ron’s retirement, they bought a motorhome and were annual visitors to the Ponoka Stampede, followed by the pony chuckwagon circuit and Spruce Meadows show jumping. He always found time to camp and play cards, especially crib. Ron also took up leather work and sold beautiful, handcrafted items.

Ron will be greatly missed by his wife Edith; children Greg, Heather (Myles), Wes (Sandy), and Doug; grandchildren Jamie, Chelsea, Becky (Adam) and Jordan (Caley); great grandchildren Leah and Emily; siblings Maridell (John) and Sharron; and nieces Cheryl and Tracy.

A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2024, from 2-4 pm at the Eckville Friendship Centre, (across from the curling rink), Eckville.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Dear Aunt Edith, Greg, Heather, Wes and Doug and families....
We are sorry to learn of Uncle Ronnie's passing. We regret not being able to join you today to hear how much he meant to so many. One of my earliest memories is of coming to your house when you lived in St. Albert, many, many years ago. We hope the family legends and remembering will bring comfort and smiles as you miss him. Take care, Val & John
